Non-woven fabric

Some of the thinnest fiber or fabric-like structures have been nonwovens, which weighed less than two ounces per square yard. Some of the thickest have also been nonwovens, measuring over one foot in thickness. Nonwovens can contain fibers that are less than one micron in diameter. Typical textile equipment cannot handle fibers this small and the demand for such materials is growing. In the near future we will see nanofibers in nonwovens that are much smaller.

Nonwovens can be produced on totally automated production lines at higher speeds than most competitive processes. Investors, suppliers and converters continue to investigate and follow the growth and opportunities of the nonwovens industry. Nonwovens continue to grow at a faster rate than other textile-like processes and it continues to take marketshare from wovens and knits.
There is an old saying, "If you can't beat them, join them" and maybe that is why each year more companies that produce wovens and knits have either invested in nonwovens or are considering producing or marketing them.
